Who is this Class for?
This class is for anyone who wants to give their dog more agency over their care and environment.
What is cooperative care and counterconditioning?
Cooperative Care and Counterconditioning means allowing the dog to control the process. In her latest book, Control Unleashed: Reactive to Relaxed, Leslie McDevitt introduces Voluntary Sharing (VS) for dogs who struggle sharing or taking turns and Requested Approach Training (RAT) for dogs who are anxious with people, dogs, or objects. Each of these protocols gives the dog choice and control: VS gives the dog control over resources and RAT gives the dog control over movement.
What will you learn?
In this 6-week class, we will focus on using Start Buttons to give our dogs the ability to say Start, Continue, or Stop a specific procedure. Each dog team will select a specific area to focus on during this course. Some example areas of focus are car anxiety, nail trims, resource guarding, vacuuming, putting on equipment, and meeting new people.
How does it work?
Each team will receive a personalized training plan to follow during the course. We will meet for one hour on Zoom for interactive coaching sessions, and participants are encouraged to share videos or ask questions online for additional feedback during the week.
